Personal Year

The overall theme and energy of your current year. Calculated by reducing your birth month, birth day, and the current calendar year each to a single digit, then adding those three results together and reducing again. If the final sum is 11, 22, or 33, it's preserved as a Master Number.

Personal Years run in a nine-year cycle (from the fresh orientation of a 1 year through the completion and release of a 9) then begin again. Each year has a distinct quality that colours the terrain you're moving through, regardless of what's happening externally.

On when the year turns: The Numerologist transitions your Personal Year on your birthday, not January 1. The reasoning is that the Personal Year is a personal cycle. It tracks the rotation of your individual numerological clock, not the universal calendar. January 1 is an external, collective marker. Your birthday is the actual anniversary of your life beginning. Anchoring your year there means the cycle belongs to you. This approach has strong support in the tradition, and it's what we consider the more coherent method. If you prefer the January 1 convention, you can switch to it in Settings.
